100 Available Crypto & Web3 Domain Names for Your Next Protocol

Naming a crypto project is a race you're already losing. The good .coms went to squatters in the last cycle, the obvious words are parked behind five-figure asking prices, and half the names you brainstorm are one token launch away from being someone else's ticker. So we did the grinding part for you. We generated a batch of brandable, on-chain-flavored root words for the Web3 space and checked every one live against real registry data this week. What follows is 100 domains that were genuinely unregistered when we looked — no premium-price traps, no "available for $9,000" bait. Skim the list, but read the sections first: in crypto, a name collision can mean more than a bruised ego.

100 Available Crypto & Web3 Domain Names for Your Next Protocol

What makes a good domain name for a crypto or Web3 startup?

Crypto naming plays by harsher rules than a normal SaaS launch. Your name will be screenshotted on Crypto Twitter, typed into a wallet's address bar by someone terrified of phishing clones, and read aloud on a Spaces call at 2am. It has to be instantly distinctive, hard to typosquat, and clearly *yours* — because in this space, a name that's easy to imitate is a name that will be imitated to drain someone's funds.

The best Web3 names hint at the machinery — chain, ledger, vault, stake, mint, node, hash, zk — without collapsing into a generic keyword that ten other protocols already share. Evocative beats literal: you want a word a community can rally around and turn into a meme, not a description a competitor can clone by swapping one syllable.

  • Distinctive enough that a phishing clone is obvious at a glance
  • Short and typo-resistant — it will be typed by anxious users guarding their keys
  • Evocative of the mechanism (chain, vault, stake, zk) without being a bland keyword
  • Clear when spoken aloud on a Spaces call or conference stage
  • Still open as an X/Twitter handle, a GitHub org, and — ideally — an ENS name

Are these crypto domains actually available right now?

Yes — every domain on this list was verified as unregistered when we built it, using live DNS and registry (RDAP/WHOIS) checks rather than a stale database. That's the same pipeline ZeroTaken runs for its live search, so you're not looking at names that quietly lapsed from "available" months ago.

The honest caveat matters more in crypto than anywhere else: availability is a snapshot, and good names in a hot narrative get claimed within hours, sometimes by bots watching the same wordlists you are. If one below is *the* one, register it today — not after the weekend, not after the next governance call. Before you buy, re-check it: pasting the name into ZeroTaken takes a few seconds and confirms it's still open this minute.

Should a Web3 startup use .com, .io, .ai, or something else?

It's not a matter of taste — it's arithmetic, and the numbers are brutal. Of the 100 available names on this list, only 6 were open on .com. The .com for almost every brandable crypto root we tested was already registered, while .io, .ai, and .co were open across the board. That single statistic is the whole story of Web3 naming: the .com era ended before most of these projects were an idea.

For this audience, that's a feature, not a consolation prize. In crypto circles .io reads as native infrastructure, .ai signals the on-chain-plus-agents narrative that's eating the sector, and .co is a clean, short fallback that still looks intentional. None of them carry an SEO penalty — Google treats them as generic domains — and to a degen evaluating your protocol, a sharp .io or .ai often reads as more credible than a generic .com would. Pick the extension your specific community trusts, and don't wire four figures to a broker for a .com your users were never going to type.

Do you still need a real domain if you have an ENS name?

Yes — and conflating the two is one of the most expensive mistakes new Web3 teams make. An ENS name (yourproject.eth) and an on-chain identity are for receiving funds and signing in with a wallet; they are not a substitute for a DNS domain that renders your app, hosts your docs, and — critically — anchors your email and your security disclosures. Wallets, exchanges, and auditors will look for a real domain, and a project with only an .eth name and a Linktree reads as unserious or, worse, as a scam.

The pragmatic play is to own both, and to own the DNS domain first. Register a brandable domain like the ones below for your public front door, then claim the matching .eth (and the X handle and GitHub org) so a copycat can't assemble a convincing clone around your name. The domain is where users land; the on-chain name is how they transact. Skipping the domain to save on a registration fee is how teams end up rebranding after launch — right when momentum matters most.
